Carl Hiaasen was born and raised in Florida. He worked his way through to the Miami Herald and eventually became an author. His style is quite inventive and follows an environmental and political theme; he is no doubt ‘taking shots’ at Florida’s track record in both areas.
He has one re-occurring character named Skink and he appears in every second book (so far). Several children’s books have also been written; ‘Hoot’ was made into a movie.
